The Occupational Physiotherapy Service offers a unique system where employees are seen as outpatients in their own workplace during normal working hours. All employees will be given an extensive programme of treatment to ensure maximum rehabilitation within the shortest possible timescale. General advice and preventative measures will be discussed thus reducing the chance of recurring problems.

All employees will be treated under the standards of Physiotherapy Practice published by the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy. The Chartered Physiotherapist is dedicated to providing safe and effective treatment for their patients and have a very wide knowledge base and are not restricted to just one modality of treatment. The Chartered Physiotherapist will always carry out a thorough assessment of the employee's problems and discuss the proposed plan of treatment. The employee will be given the full details and an opportunity to accept or refuse the proposed treatment programme. This programme would have specified treatment objectives which will be monitored throughout.

Conditions can either be ACUTE or CHRONIC. Acute means symptoms developed within the past 6 weeks. CHRONIC is longstanding sometimes for months or even years. Symptoms may be CONSTANT or INTERMITTENT. CONSTANT means 24 hours. INTERMITTENT coming and going over the course of a day or lasting for several days, then settling.

Conditions that will normally benefit include:-

ACUTE
Whiplash/Neck Pain.
Back Pain.
Soft tissue injuries such as ankle or knee ligament sprains and muscle sprains.

CHRONIC
Postural Problems.
Neck Pain (Spondylosis).
Back Pain.
Arthritic joint problems involving the jaw/shoulder/elbow/wrist/hand/hip/knee/ ankle/foot.
Headaches/migraine

All appointments are made via the OHNA. The service will be on-site with the key aim of reducing sickness absence by quickly rehabilitating staff from musculoskeletal injuries and by circumventing the need for the employee to be placed on lengthy NHS waiting lists.
